A new UK-wide initiative, the Charity AI Task Force, has been launched to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) is developed and used responsibly, inclusively, and collaboratively across the charity sector. The task force was established in February 2025 by CAST (Centre for the Acceleration of Social Technology) and Zoe Amar Digital.

Who are they?

Co-chaired by Dan Sutch (Director of CAST) and Zoe Amar (Founder of Zoe Amar Digital), the Charity AI Task Force brings together a coalition of over 50 member organisations. These include Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, The National Lottery Community Fund, SCVO, Charity Digital and CharityComms.

What’s their purpose?

  • Represent and support the UK charity sector in shaping the impacts of AI.
  • Guide charities on AI safe, fair, and ethical use, building the understanding and confidence of charities to make informed decisions about AI.
  • Listen to and work with different groups to ensure diverse and inclusive perspectives.
  • Develop, source and share practical recommendations, resources and efforts to support charities’ response to AI.
  • Build partnerships, collaboration and knowledge sharing between charities, tech experts, government, and businesses.

What's their aim?

The task force focuses on four main goals:

  • Act as a collective voice for AI in the charity sector, making the case for support and partnerships, and leveraging our insights.
  • Influence responsible, ethical (including environmentally friendly) and inclusive AI use in and outside the sector.
  • Encourage collaboration between key groups i.e. funders, regulators, large and small charities, business and the public sector.
  • Align efforts to ensure quicker/better support for the sector.

The task force also aims to help charities understand the ethical considerations and practical implications of using AI technologies.

How can you get involved?

Charities, funders, researchers and others interested in AI in the third sector are invited to participate.

There are a few ways to get involved:

  • Join one of the sector-specific working groups (for small charities, funders, etc.).
  • Participate in roundtables or focus groups.
  • Share insights, research, or case studies on AI use.
