We are excited to invite you to apply for fully-funded support, guidance and/or advice at our Data Surgery. Data Cymru is collaborating with Newid: digital for the third sector to offer up to 4 hours of practical support for your data-related issue. We particularly welcome submissions relating to the design, delivery or analysis of surveys. You will get the opportunity to work with our in-house experts to get the best out of your data.

Data Surgery Overview

  • Objective: Up to 4 hours of practical support, guidance and advice relating to a data query
  • When: Application deadline 8 August 2025. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 20 August.  Support will be available from August until November.
  • Location: Online, over the phone, or in-person for those who can attend our offices in Cardiff
  • Eligibility: Open to third sector organisations.
  • Spaces: We have three spaces available.

Where the number of applications exceed our 3 spaces the following criteria will be looked at to choose the successful applicants:

    • Priority given to those who attended Data Cymru’s Newid Training sessions in February, March and June 2025.
    • Priority given to submissions looking at survey design and analysis, or presenting data.
    • Feasibility of the submission within the time frame.
    • A geographic spread of organisations across Wales.
    • A mixture of different size organisations or organisations working in different areas (e.g. youth, health, housing).
    • Whether support is available through other services like DigiCymru.

Your submission

We welcome submissions on any data issues, however submissions relating to surveys and presenting data will be given preference.

Here are some examples of potential submissions:

  • We’ve recently undertaken a survey that includes both quantitative data (rating experiences) and qualitative data (describe your experience/ free text boxes). We’d like support in learning how to analyse the qualitative data in a way that we can present succinctly, identifying common themes and potentially charting these or presenting them other than in long-form quotes. The survey has 10 questions, and we have received 54 responses.
  • We have recently completed a survey using both paper and online methods. Both formats seem to have errors or answers we don’t know if we can or should include. What, if anything, can we do to standardise or improve the results?
  • We are presenting a report for a funding application – we want to understand which charts will be most impactful and how to present our facts and figures in an engaging, meaningful way.

Application questions

  • Please outline the reason you would like to access the data surgery. What would you like support with?
  • Are there any specific systems or tools you use connected to this? E.g. survey monkey, canva, excel, CRM etc.
  • What would you like to have achieved by the end of data surgery?
  • Are they any time constraints or considerations associated with your submission (e.g. we need to launch the survey by a specific date, we have a report deadline.)
  • Who will be involved in the data surgery?

If you have any questions you can contact digital@wcva.cymru, or to discuss whether your submission is suitable contact Roisin.Roberts@data.cymru.
